| BOTANY BAY - REVIEW This is Martin’s second album,
his first being The Climbing Boy which was recorded under The production is lavish to say the least. However, with so many fine musicians contributing to this album it makes for a rich full sound. The musicians include Nancy Kerr, James Fagan, John Kirkpatrick, Jon Davie, Michael Gregory and Keith Thompson. Graeme Taylor recorded, produced and played on most of the tracks. There are four of Martin’s own songs here, three from other songwriters and the rest traditional. Martin sings well enough and although after the first play I thought there was a little bit too much going on I can honestly say it’s grown on me. There are some fine songs here. The first track Romney Tower by Bob Kenward sets the standard for the rest of the album. My favourite tracks are When Darkness Fall, When I Find My Wings and Rolling and Flowing. I am sure that will change with a few more plays. A really good second album, with Martin sounding more like the “Martin Young Band”. I loved it. Jim Schofield |
